History & heritage
A hotel with tradition
The Stadthotel Styria is a celebration of the heritage of one of Steyr's most historic buildings. When our unique hotel was first mentioned in 16th century city records as "Haus in der Statt" ('house in the city') it was a private residence. In the following centuries, buildings to the back of the house were gradually connected, and the property first opened as a hotel in the 1990s. Current owners, August and Eva Reichenpfader, dedicated to preserving the history surrounding the building, restored the property with lots of love and the utmost attention to detail — laying the foundations for your home in Steyr.

Discover our history. The tastefully renovated medieval building with surprising gothic and baroque details throughout exudes an atmosphere of history and classic luxury. The beamed ceiling in the breakfast salon, dating back to the early 16th century, and the Renaissance fresco, depicting a Romantic motif, is evocative of Steyr's long and diverse history. Stadthotel Styria has undergone several renovations to upgrade the space into luxury accommodations and public areas, while maintaining its historical charm and architectural integrity.
Modern yet authentic: a transformation of the hotel's rooms, and common areas in 2020 showcases historical details while refreshing and enhancing their classic style. As with previous renovations, the 2020 update was done in celebration of the historical character of the property, while seamlessly embracing an urban, 21st century flair. With its eclectic fusion of various past periods and artistic styles, the Stadthotel Styria epitomizes the dynamism and vitality of our city between two rivers.
